Nick Sheeran

is a graphic designer and artist in Amsterdam. Originally from the US, he freelanced in Lënapehòkink / Lenapehoking (New York City) before moving to Amsterdam to complete an MA at the Werkplaats Typografie in 2024. As a member of [hm93D], he maintains a practice combining applied graphic design and image-making with writing and studio art. [BACK]

Nick pays critical attention to the way we form our world-views through things, in turn unwittingly opening ourselves to hidden ideologies. His artistic practice combines expressive, feverish drawings and digital collages with sculptures, videos and essays which absurdly fuse artificial and ecological objects, tracing their journeys through social and material systems to peer into the lives of the various characters who relate to them. He filters subjects from natural history, ecology, political identity and digitalization, bringing to question the social forces behind our epistemologies. Projects often open with humor and maximalist compositions, attempting to create a lighthearted openness that gives way to somber reflection. This blurs heavily with his graphic design, where virtuality and eco-fiction are often key devices applied to commissioned projects in the fields of architecture, technology research, arts and culture, journalism and design education.
