My dear friends at Sad Belongings Press invited me to create a book for Swiss artist Rebecca Solari documenting her latest production as her alter ego, Fulmine. The Spiral Cava is a story of rebirth in three acts, and five languages, spurred by composting the uncompostable, eating one’s recently deceased pets, and being struck by lightning because the show must go on. Simultaneously a written explanation of the performance’s origins as well as a script, the book contains 2 parallel designs on the verso and recto sides. On the left, expressive typographic compositions and flourescent colors display the essay in sections organized by act. On the right, the classic screenplay format is followed (at roughly half the usual page dimensions) to keep the script straightforward…at least until the climax. A limited edition of 30 copies was hand-produced by risographing the flourescent colors and laserprinting the black text.
Specifications: 20.5 × 14.8cm, 96p.
Writing: Rebecca Solari, editing: Mariana Jurado Rico, production: Mariana Jurado Rico, Oriol Cabarrocas, myself
The rear cover features a cut-up poem of my own creation sourced from the book’s contents.
